Transitions are usually outside our control. What we do control is being grounded enough to survive, and even thrive, when change does come along. Finding Your Posts is a collection of essays about staying spiritually grounded during transition. The spirituality is Ignatian – flowing from teachings of St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits. As such, Finding Your Posts reflects the belief that “God may be found in all things.” Those "things," as author Kent Hickey has found in his own life, include transitions like graduation, a new job, overcoming disappointments, becoming a parent, and losing a friend. It also means finding God outside typical sacred spaces and in not-so-right places, like Vegas or a seedy workout gym.
Essays will resonate with graduates of Catholic/Christian schools and their parents, but they’re really for anyone who believes being well-positioned in change also means being well-positioned with God. At times motivational, and often inspirational, what Finding Your Posts is not is a treatise on piety or a how-to manual on the conduct of Christian life. Finding Your Posts is more for those who, while not generally drawn to traditional spirituality books, are open to personal growth, find humor in even difficult experiences, appreciate life as a gift, and believe faith is essential in order to avoid drifting too far from center. Consider this short compilation of essays, then, to be kind of like Seinfeld’s, Festivus, a spirituality book for “the rest of us.”
Proceeds from Finding Your Posts will be donated to support Seattle Nativity School, a Catholic, Jesuit middle school that seeks to "break the cycle of poverty through an education that nourishes souls and ignites leaders for love and service."
